For Him.

I hope you have reached safe n sound
And parked yourself on happier grounds

I write to you from a clueless town
I have no idea why I frown

Probably because I am missing you
Perhaps you should have left a residue

Of your singing heart and your dancing soul
Your skin, your pores or your magic moles

To help me survive this boring week
Without the much-needed dose of mischief

I wonder why I did not keep
A part of you, that would help me sleep

Like your arm, your palm, your lips, your tongue
Your chest, your breath, or just one of your lungs

But I shall try and not dissect
the anatomy of the man you make

'Cause the man you make is a rare find
The whole of you makes one of a kind!

Of course, if you were born on the elephant's back, you would quickly learn to see the lie of the land.

How many faces lie hidden, waiting for the time when curious eyes will find them in their secret places.

In the heart of a leaf or the bark of a tree.
In the frozen pond or the turning sea.
In the twist of a chair or the look of a key
or the shriveled skin of an elephant's knee.

-Irwin Demer.
This piece was lying hidden in the book  'The Art of Looking Sideways', waiting for the time when my curious eyes would find it!

On comfort.

But I don't want comfort. I want poetry. I want danger. I want freedom. I want goodness. I want sin.

On Luck.

Luck, they say, has a peculiar habit of favoring those who don't depend on it.

On Strength

Why do people say “grow some balls”? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding.

Happy Ending?

There are no happy endings.
Endings are the saddest part,
So just give me a happy middle
And a very happy start.

Being alone

Language has created the word 'Loneliness' to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word 'Solitude' to express the glory of being alone.

Where can I find a man who has forgotten words?
I'd like to have a word with him.
-Chuang Tzu

From the book 'Married to Bhutan'

There are, in the heart of the vast Himalayas, some strange marketplaces where one can barter the whirlwind of life for infinite wisdom.

Wisdom is seasonal.

It blooms in spring and withers in autumn.
In summers, of course, it likes to be forgotten.
It pays occasional visits when you feel dead and rotten.
Wisdom in winters is drastically shortened.

For real!

When you get done with your virtual life
Make some time for the girl who wants to be your wife.
You will find her standing with a loving gaze,
At the outer edge of your cyber space.

This & That

This mountain, That mountain.
This river, That river.
This tree, That tree.
This flower, That flower.
This cloud, That cloud.
This season, That season.
This bird, That bird.

I love.

Silence and Storm

There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in storm.

- my Naga friend quotes Willa Cather.

Wine and Whirling

Bring the pure wine of love and freedom.
But sir, a tornado is coming.
More wine, we'll teach this storm
A thing or two about whirling.

There will be days when your attire won't hide your tyres.
and your heart won't get what it truly desires.

There will be days when you will find truth with a bunch of liars
and the song you want won't be there on limewire.

There will be days when you will find someone to 'light your fire'
only to realize that it's for your funeral pyre.

On such days, just take a cab on hire
and go hug the person you truly admire.

They come from 66° 33′ 44″, North of the Equator

Making love at a crazy pace,
in the darkness of a parking space,
were the lovers of the Arctic circle
who brought their midnight sun to light their circus.

People stopped being human in 1913.

That was the year Henry Ford put his cars on rollers and made his workers adopt the speed of the assembly line. At first, workers rebelled. They quit in droves, unable to accustom their bodies to the new pace of the age. Since then, however, the adaptation has been passed down: we’ve all inherited it to some degree, so that we plug right into joysticks and remotes, to repetitive motions of a hundred kinds.

My thoughts are made of you.

Is there something you'd like to do?

Forty is the most beautiful age for both men and women. Did you know that in mystic thought forty symbolises the ascent from one level to a higher one and a spiritual awakening? When we mourn, we mourn for forty days. When a baby is born it takes forty days to get ready to start life on earth. And when we are in love, we need to wait for forty days to be sure of our feelings.

The flood of Noah lasted forty days, and while the waters destroyed life, they also washed away all impurity and enabled human beings to make a new fresh start. In Islamic mysticism there are forty degrees between man and God. Likewise, there are four basic stages of consciousness and ten degrees in each, making forty in total. Jesus went into the wilderness for forty days and nights. Muhammad was forty years old when he received the call to become a prophet. Buddha meditated under a linden tree for forty days, not to mention the forty rules of Shams.

You receive a new mission at forty, a new lease on life! You have reached the most auspicious number. Congratulations and don’t worry about getting old.

- from the book that I am reading.

I am not forty yet.
